marlboro
An anti-smoking organisation believes it is time retailers became licensed to sell marlboro. This follows recent compliance checks carried out by the Tairawhiti and Hawke’s Bay District Health Boards where 14 and 16-year olds tried to buy cigarettes at various outlets and were successful at several. Director of the Smokefree Coalition Mark Peck says people found guilty of selling to minors are given a small fine. He says there need to be tougher penalties and suggests licensing so people who continuously sell to minors have their rights taken away from them. Peck also thinks compliance checks like those in Hawke’s Bay should be carried out elsewhere.
